Week 7 Blog Entry

 Reflection:

In today's lesson, we started learning how to draw and design a 3D product using a CADD software, Fusion 360. Before attending tutorial, we first had to make our initials keyring with the help from the resources provided in blackboard. It was very frustrating and it took a lot of time as it was all new to us. It was difficult to navigate the tools required as the instructions provided were not matching with our updated fusion 360. The most confusing part for us was the offset as we couldn't make our design to be like the one shown in the instructions. Eventually, we managed to figure out and help one another whenever we were still stuck to a part. Some of us redid the whole steps again as our final product was not the same as the one shown in the instruction manual. Nonetheless, it was still fun trying to learn new things and experiment with the software while making our keyring.

An example of our team's nametag is shown below:

 3. Xin Ni

 4. Katrina

Next, during the tutorial lesson, we learnt about constraints. It was easier for us to navigate through as our lecturer was going through the activity along with us so we could ask and share our screen easily if we were stuck. We also helped one another along in our team whenever we were lost or if the lecturer went too fast. In the end, we all managed to finish it smoothly and on time. Our use of sketch constraints can be seen below.

Lastly, we have to use what we have learnt and make a photo frame which consisted of a photo frame, transparent plastic sheet, u-shape and back cover. We assigned ourselves on 1 object each. We first had a misunderstanding on the dimensions required as we selected the dimensions given to us but it was the maximum dimensions. So we adjusted our own dimensions to fit our photo frame. We were also confused on the dimensions of each product as we didn't know whether they would all be the same or not. We discussed and came to a conclusion for the dimensions to be the same as the 4R photograph size except for the front photo frame and make it bigger. As it was a simple product to make, none of us had any problems and we were able to complete it on time. We helped one another too if one of us had any problems with their design. Our photo frame can be shown in the pdf file below:

All in all, it was a new experience for us to design in a software and we had a lot of frustrations from designing but we soon overcame them and felt satisfied and relieved after completing our finished products. We hope that we will be able to utilize the knowledge we have learnt here to produce and design our chemical product 😄
